Seniors Fun Picnic 30th March 2025.
Article written by Jayasri Banerjee
At last, the long awaited 30th March arrived – many seniors were ready for the picnic and we were blessed with good weather. People rolled up on time.
The day started with Kolkata style “murimakha” and tea. The muri was mixed on the spot and the tea was prepared fresh. The surroundings were beautiful with an abundance of natural greeneries, play areas, walking trails, etc. It was amazing to see all the seniors in their high spirits, with enthusiasm and energy. Open air environment must have an effect on us!!! The participants brought folding chairs and tables from home as they would have done for their family picnic. There were so many personal touches that it was looking like a “mega family picnic”.
Food was delivered on time by the caterers with a delicious menu. The food was too much for many people to consume. Obviously, it was taken home by the participants.
Then, it was fun-time with different types of games . But people were so involved in chatting and adda that they hardly had any time to spare time for games. People spent time as they wished/wanted – some went for a walk along the walking trail.
This was the first time BAV Seniors Group organised this sort of activity. The response was enormous from the beginning and surpassed our expectations. We even stretched our a bit more to accommodate as many attendees as we could. Several seniors couldn’t attend the picnic due to their last-minute health problems, but we personally delivered their share of food to their homes. This is an example of “seniors helping seniors”
Overall, it was a grand success and a very satisfying event of participation and involvement. Before we wound up activities for the day, there were already several requests to organise this sort of activity in the future. The special day was the result of much planning and effort by the BAVS team. Many thanks to all who helped to plan and execute, as well as everyone who attended, making a success of the day.
